🧀 Germany’s Formo secured $61 million Series B funding for its animal-free cheeses made via microbial fermentation, which it just launched into more than 2,000 Rewe, Billa and Metro stores across the country.

🥩 Barcelona-based Novameat closed its oversubscribed Series A funding round with €17.4 million. It will use the funds to further expand its 3D-printed product range, which includes a new, improved shredded plant-based beef.

🌾 US biotech Switch Bioworks raised $17 million seed funding for its low-cost and sustainable fertilisers, made by engineering symbiotic, nitrogen-fixing microbes that live on plant roots.

👨‍🌾 Belgian startup Soil Capital secured €15 million, in a Series B funding round led by Trill Impact Ventures, to help farmers improve soil health with its agronomic support for regenerative agriculture practices.

💰 The US Environmental Protection Agency awarded more than $15 million in research grants to investigate the effects of PFAS on American farmland and the food supply, as well as to develop methods for reducing contamination.

🪰 Scottish agritech Solasta Bio raised $14 million to further develop its “nature-inspired”, peptide-based insecticide, designed to meet industry efficacy standards whilst being more environmentally friendly than conventional options.

🥂 US-based ZBiotics raised $12 million Series A funding to bring the ‘world’s first’ genetically engineered probiotics to market. Its flagship product, Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink, breaks down the toxic byproduct of alcohol, acetaldehyde, to help consumers feel better the day after drinking. Imagine if the perfect hangover cure did exist!

🇬🇧 Plant-Ex Ingredients, based in the UK, secured $9 million from BGF to support its international expansion plans. It produces natural food ingredient solutions, including natural colours, flavours and extracts.

🥙 Copenhagen-based REDUCED secured €8 million Series A funding, with support from the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund, for its upcycled food ingredient tech platform.

💨 Australia’s Number 8 Bio raised $7 million seed funding to reduce livestock methane production. Its feed additives include compounds designed to modify the animal's metabolism, promoting growth and optimising energy utilisation.

🔦 Delli, launched by Depop founder Simon Beckerman, raised $6 million to capture the market for food “with a story behind it” with its online platform for sourcing independent food and drink.

🍄 US-based functional beverage brand Odyssey secured $6 million to support its expansion plans. It claims to be the first ready-to-drink energy beverage infused with 2,750 mg of lion’s mane and cordyceps mushrooms, which provides energy, clarity, and focus.

🇺🇸 Create Wellness, based in the US, raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Unilever Ventures. It will use the funds to “bring the benefits of creatine supplementation to a wider audience” by supporting its expansion into larger retail channels.

🍳 Brazilian biotech Cellva Ingredients, which creates microcarriers, nutrient microcapsules, and oils, fats, and fatty acids from cultivated fat, raised $1.5 million to expand its operations.

🍕 Canadian commercial baker Rustica Foods, which makes pizzas, sauces, and more, received $1 million in government funding to improve its productivity and competitiveness.

🥚 UK-based Nandi Proteins secured £500,000 from investors including Nesta and Scottish Enterprise. It will use the funds to further develop its egg white replacer for gluten-free bakery and mycoprotein alternatives, which it says has attracted “strong interest” from manufacturers.

🇨🇦 Canadian startup Catalera BioSolutions announced the first close of its $8 million Series A round. It will use the funding to speed up the development of its biopesticide products.

🧀 Vegan cheesemaker Climax Foods secured bridge funding from existing investors, and claims it will fund its operations through to the end of 2024 after a “challenging period”.

🌊 Norway’s Deep Blue Fund I secured investment from MOL Plus to help support the country’s blue economy.

🇦🇺 Australian startup Algenie, launched by v2food founder Nick Hazell, came out of stealth with funding from Better Bite Ventures for its photobioreactors that can create sustainable fuels, bioplastics and feed from algae.
